Chicken Karahi

I love Chicken karahi!
This recipe is really easy and super delicious. This can easily be done in about 25-30 minutes, so its super fast as well !
Do try it and tell me how it turns out, i would love to hear your feedback !

Chicken : 1/2 kg
Ginger garlic paste : 1 1/2 tsp
Tomatoes : 3 (roughly chopped)
Salt : to taste
Red chili powder : 1/2 tsp
Red chili flakes : 1 tbsp (adjust according to taste)
Turmeric powder : 1/4 tsp
Coriander powder : 1/4 tsp
Cumin (zeera) : 1/2 tsp
Dried Fenugreek leaves (methi) : 1/2 tsp
Yogurt : 250 grams
Green chilies : 3-4
Coriander : 1/2 bunch.

Method :

Heat 1/4 cup of oil in a wok. Add  ginger garlic paste, fry till fragrant.

Add dried fenugreek leaves and cumin. Cook for about 30 seconds.

Add chicken.

When the chicken changed color add tomatoes...

..and spices.

Mix. Cover and cook on low heat for about 10 minutes or till the tomatoes are tender. And the oil separate.

Add yogurt...

..and green chilies.

Cook on high heat till water evaporates.

When gravy is thick add coriander and 2-3 whole chilies.

  6. Your recipe looks awesome! Exactly what I was looking for. The recipe asks for 3 tomatoes. What size of tomatoes are you using? Can you tell us what the approximate weight of tomatoes would be(in lbs, kgs, or grams)? I am a new cook and this will really help. Thank you!

      3 medium tomatoes are fine. You can just eyeball it. it wont make any difference even if you put in the large ones, you would just have more gravy !
      unlike baking, cooking is really forgiving ! :)

  7. I tried this recipe and it turned out super delicious! It reminded of chicken karahi we ate at restaurants in Pakistan.
    I did make some minor changes to the recipe. I put 1 tsp of kasuri methi(instead of 1/2 tsp), 1/2 cup of yogurt(instead of 1 cup), 1/2 tsp of crushed red chillies with half teaspoon of red chilli powder and 2 thai green chillies(cut in half). It was still spicy enough for my taste since I kept the gravy thick. I made it for a party as well and everyone raved about it. Thanks so much for posting it. I have tried your chapli kabab recipe(a hit), chicken handi(different version as you call it ) and the chicken curry recipe you recently posted. They all turned out great. Please post more chicken curry recipes. Thank you.
